Meet Dr. Edward M. Goldman

Dr. Goldman was born and raised in Washington, D.C., the son of a public school teacher and a homemaker mother. He attended George Washington University and then studied for his dental degree at Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Dr. Goldman was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon society, a national dental honor society. After graduating in 1967 he served in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps and was stationed in Izmir, Turkey. The two years he spent there were wonderful. Practicing general dentistry gave him additional clinical experience that was of great value. And living in a beautiful country such as Turkey, with its warm and friendly people, beautiful scenery, and long history had a strong influence on his life.

After returning to the D.C. area, he practiced general dentistry for another year, working with a wise and skilled dentist. But the specialty of orthodontics had always appealed to him, and he attended the University of Maryland in the postgraduate orthodontic program. After graduating as an orthodontist in 1972, he opened his office in Westminster, Md. He chose Westminster because it is a beautiful small town away from the “beltway” atmosphere. Dr. Goldman taught part-time in the graduate and undergraduate orthodontic programs at the University of Maryland Orthodontic Department. Probably because his father was a teacher, Dr. Goldman enjoyed his years spent at the dental school and continues his love of explaining things to his patients and their parents.

Dr. Goldman’s practice grew, largely because of his warm and understanding manner, as well as his conservative philosophy of orthodontic treatment. He and his staff grow close to his patients and their families, and he prides himself on having an office which is personal, fun for the patients, and dedicated to their treatment. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists, Maryland State Dental Association, and the Carroll County Dental Association.

Dr. Goldman is an avid amateur photographer. His office is filled with his photos as well as those of his secretary, Melinda and her husband, Richard. He has two sons of which he is very proud and is the grandfather of twin girls and a boy.
